Tuottavat tilat

Mikäpä sen parempi hetki pohtia työn tuottavuutta ja ihmisten työpisteitä kuin flunssaisena kotona. Jos nyt satut lukemaan tätä töissä omasta kuutiostasi käsin, ollaan työpaikalla auttamattomasti out. Niin väittää ainakin Foster Office Productivity -artikkeli, mutta väitetään siinä paljon muutakin: "As knowledge work, content creation and collaboration continue to increase among today’s workers, office design and technology need to adapt in order to achieve maximum effectiveness. Because there are so many different types of businesses, varying in size, industry and work processes, one size does not fit all."

Työpaikalla pitäisi siis olla tilaa tehdä töitä yhdessä, tilaa juoda kahvia, puhua puhelimessa toisten häiriintymättä ja etenkin tilaa tehdä töitä rauhassa. Avokonttorin pelisäännöillä päästään tiettyyn pisteeseen saakka, mutta eivät nekään kaikkea ratkaise, jos olosuhteet eivät anna myöten. "A balanced combination of areas meeting the different space requirements of the organization is necessary to enhance employee creativity, individual performance and foster teamwork. Admittedly, what can be done in terms of design is directly related to the available resources and how much can be invested to make the improvements. However, if managers understand the people and information flow of their business, they are well on their way to understand how to create maximum efficiency."

Mitä siihen tuottavuuteen tulee, niin viimeisimpien tutkimusten mukaan on kustannustehokkaampaa sairastaa päivä kotona kuin mennä töihin köhimään: "Workers who are present but sick or in pain, are three-times less productive as workers in the same condition who just take the day off." Niin ollen yritän siis tänään olla potematta protestanttista syyllisyyttä kipeästä kurkusta ja otan vielä toisen kupin teetä.
